Ascent Trip Report

A late evening stop off on a long car journey, I reached the Chalet de Brame Farine via the village of Allevard near Chambery. The last 4km up to the shed (chalet is far too grand a word for it) are on a dirt track but one of very good quality.

However, the area around the chalet and the summit was a complete mess of quagmire and off-cuts from recent logging activities. In dry conditions as I had, it was possible to dance between the swampy bits, but after rain take a snorkel for the forestry track.

Head SW along the obvious track, after about 200m there is a parallel (original?) path through the trees which is in better shape, although stil clogged with debris in places. Soon the first top (1219m) is reached and, after a 20m descent down to the col, the track rises again and passes just to the right (NW) of the summit. Scramble over the tree stumps and off-cuts of pine branches to the high point before heading swiftly back vowing never to return. There are no views to the impressive mountains on the east side as the thick pine plantation is still standing on that side.

Note that the large radio mast is NE of the Chalet and is on a lower top.
