Ascent Trip ReportPeak #3 of the day was Pine Mountain. This was another one of my early summits on the 100 Peak Challenge, or so I thought. In looking over my original route, I found my son and I did not get anywhere close to the summit. Parking at the Pioneer Mall campground, I hit the trail. This was a pretty gentle climb for about a mile, then I switched to Pine Mountain Road. This dirt road was recently graded, making it quite pleasant under the shade of the trees. Toward the summit, I departed the road and headed across the forest floor until the gentle top of Pine Mountain was in view. I enjoyed a snack and the pine-scented breeze. I thought I saw the faint tracks of an old Jeep trail, but it was an easy cross country traverse. All told, this summit was 4.1 miles round-trip.
