Ascent Trip ReportFrom the bridge at Bellshaw Pool and along the (alternate) Southern Uplands Way past Craigbeck Hope to the track up to Coomb Cairn. There is then a faint track up to the fence-line on Scaw'd Fell. The fence was then followed to the top. Reversed the route back to the track junction with the SUW and thence to Wamphrey Water.
Followed the track up by the stream to the edge of the forest in 1km or so. Choice time to get to Croft Head - straight up the slopes to the left or on for a further kilometre and then up the east ridge?
Chose the former. Probably a mistake. Anyway summit duly reached. Hazy views all around.
Followed SUW south off Croft Head and down Gateshaw Rig. Met the forest road at pt 462 (on the OS 1:25000) and followed the road for 500m or so until a rather nice path by Dry Gurter. All waymarked. North along the next forest road with a continuation path that meets up with the outward route just before the end of the forest.
