Ascent Trip Report

My brother Henry and I hiked Keg Mountain from the south. The road leaving the Weis Highway to Keg Pass was not marked. It seems as if someone has recently taken down the sign, leaving two posts behind. My Ford Ranger got us up to the end of the jeep track east of Keg Pass, where we parked just below 6200 feet. We followed the south ridge to the summit, veering off if the ridge occasionally when cliffs made the going difficult. The summit was quite snowy for the time of year. We thought one drift around 5 feet tall, just to the north of the benchmark, was about on the highest point of the mountain. We returned the way we ascended, enjoying wonderful views to the south and west in this remote part of Utah.
