Ascent Trip Report

On my way down to to tackle some county highpoint and after a far too long drive, stumbled into this local park near the town of Calhan. It has three nice parking lots, bathroom facilities and was well used on this snowy, rainy day. The geologic formations are a like a small bad lands. Clayey, sandy material eroded from many millions of years but leaving some interesting twisting gorges of erosion and mushroom shaped heads. The colors of the clays, conglomerate sandstone, arkose, and volcanic material gives off hues that are yellow, red, orange, greenish, blue and other colors that are quite interesting. I used the many trails of the park to get some nice exercise before doing flat county highpoints. Why not go grab the park's highest point while there? It is one of the few places where there is actually public land to hike in. The highest point is near the the road and upper parking lot.
