Ascent Trip Report

Long Mountain:

The trick to this peak is getting there. Summit post recommends taking Bacona Road all the way up from Route US 26 just before town of Buxton. This is not what google maps or apple maps will have you do but they are right. This road is wider and well graded gravel for most of the way. Only down near the last mile it becomes narrow and a few potholes but nothing that a KIA rental car that it could not handle easily. The gate there is a sign and it unlike the logging company sign at Wildcat. It implies you need a permit. Not sure if that is for driving up there (but there is a gate to stop you) or just to hike up there. The road bifurcates and taking the less traveled and overgrown weeds to the right, the road gains quickly and then opens into a wide area with views but that road dead ends. Bushwhacking is required to the summit where one would encounter another gravel road. Summit would be obvious.
