Ascent Trip Report

Winter Gate was still closed. Darn and it was getting late. There was no snow at all until about one mile up the road and then it was in patches of slush. Further up the entire road was still snow. Above elevation 2900 there was a few inches of snow the rest of the way up. I followed the road to be safe since it was late in the day. There is no fee to park at the winter gate which is one mile from the upper parking lot and at this pull over there is plenty of parking but nobody was on the road or up there. The temperature was 46 at the parking area but dropped to around 38 higher up.

The Winter Gate parking lot is where the two roads intersect on the USGS map and almost directly where the USGS map places a red "30" to indicate the section number. Would be fun to come back and do it as the hike up the trails that everyone else does but that was not in the cards with short time and snow.
