Ascent Trip ReportJeremy Benezra and I took an impromptu trip to some lower-elevation county high points.
We got to the turnoff from WA-241 just after dark. The second gate is within 1/4-mile of the first. Neither were locked. We hit snow about 2 miles from the summit and found it slushy enough with mud underneath that we would have gotten stuck. No worries. We walked most of our distance sans headlamps, letting the brilliant stars and the orange glow from Yakima and the Tri-Cities guide us.
Once at the summit we found no benchmark, though we combed the area for about 15 minutes looking for it.
We made it back down to the vehicle and set up our tents. It was a pretty excellent place to camp.
In the morning we packed up with thoughts of hitting up Indian Rock. We were prepared for a lengthy road walk but judged the distance from Satus Pass to be more than we wanted for the day. Off to Sturgeon Rock instead.
