Ascent Trip Report

Left Monte Cristo campground at 10:30am, temperature was 60 degrees with clear skies and wind out of the northeast at 5-10 mph. Took dirt road 3N23 up the canyon along Monte Cristo creek. Lots of water, crossed over the creek maybe five, six times. Surprisingly lots of water. At the fork I went straight, left, north winding up Rabbit Peak. When I reached the power lines I bushwhacked up to the south ridge and followed the use trail to the summit. On top at 1:30pm temperature was 56 degrees, skies partly cloudy and winds blowing northeast at 10-15 mph. The registrar is still wet, 4 years, 2015, since it's been written in. On the way down, as well as up, the southern exposure and no cover left temperatures up to 72-74 degrees on this exposed road. Back to the car by 3:30pm left a 5 hour, 6.75 mile hike with 1,785 feet of elevation gain on high chaparral terrain.
