Ascent Trip ReportAn abbreviated version (given tight time constraints), in the reverse direction, of ”Pen Hill and Buckden Pike”, walk number 33 in Wild Walks by Ken Wilson and Richard Gilbert. A very fine anti-clockwise round of the upper reaches of Waldendale, approaching Buckden Pike from the by far less well-trodden eastern side.
Parked by the phone box next to The Old Chapel; thence via Hill Top Farm, a shooting hut with ‘Henry Cubitt’ plaque, Naughtberry Hill, Buckden Pike, the Polish War Memorial, North Moor, to Brown Haw. Finally a steep descent to the road in the valley at Grange Farm and 2.5 km back to the car. 18.2 km / 11.3 miles in total. A great slice of the Yorkshire Dales with stupendous views towards Ingleborough and Pen-y-gent to the west and Great Whernside dominating the southerly aspect.
