Ascent Trip ReportHiked the 8.3 mile loop around Sam’s Point Preserve of Minnewaska State Park. I started the loop heading north on Loop Road until I made a left onto High Point Carriage Rd. It was shortly after the last radio tower that I looked for the high point - which I believe is the highest point of the Shawangunks. I proceeded down High Point Carriage Rd until the road seemed to start descending more steadily. At this point I found a shortcut trail that took me to the High Point trail, just below the summit. I headed north on this trail to summit High Point. After taking in the views, I retraced my steps back onto the High Point Trail. This trail has you walking along cliff sides and was very pretty! I took this trail to the junction just east of Verkeerder Kill Falls. I then hiked westward to the falls. It was from the falls that I continued westward until I got to Loop Road again. Loop Road took me to Sam’s Point, and subsequently - the parking lot again.
