Ascent of The Pinnacle on 2019-03-24
|Date:||Sunday, March 24, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Location:||USA-North Carolina|
| Elevation:||1690 ft / 515 m|
Ascent Trip ReportStarted at the trailhead at 8:10am, I think I was the third party to summit that morning. At least, I saw one party leaving the summit right as I arrived, and another was there at the summit, and we chatted briefly.
Had a decent view back to the Charlotte skyline (to the east), through a bit of haze, and to what I assume are the South Mountains (to the northwest).
Saw probably 75-100 people going up on my way down, arriving back at the trailhead at about 10:10.
There had been a prescribed burn two days before, with lots of blackened forest floor in the woods to the south of the trail, with a lot of spots still smoldering, and a couple of dead trees still in flames. And as I returned to the trailhead, a ranger came and closed the Pinnacle trail to further hikers, I assume because of the flareups.
