Ascent Trip ReportThis was a private hike with George Christiansen of two peaks in Joshua Tree National Park. Both peaks had no accents by any Peakbaggers. We parked at a trail head just pass the turn off for Barker Dam. There was a restroom and parking for a number of cars. We followed the trail past the Desert Queen Well and on to the Wall Street Stamp Mill. This was real interesting, well worth the side trip. It was at this point where we made a mistake that made this hike a lot tougher than it had to be. From the mill, we started to follow a stream that we thought would take us through the pile of rocks we saw in from of us. It took a lot longer then we expected. There times when I was sliding 2-3 off a boulder, I thought going back this way would be a real challenge. When we finally emerged from the boulders, we saw that if we had turned due east from the mill and went around the rocks, we would have had easy open terrain. Once at the base of Joshua Tree it was a short steep climb to the summit. We avoided the rocks on the way back.
Next was Echo Cove – South Face. We had tried this once before, but had to turn back when we hit some Class 3. This time we brought some rope. It was a short hike to the summit.
