Ascent Trip Report

Jeff and I had failed to make much progress on Waterhouse a few weeks earlier, making it only a mile in two hours through waist-deep powder. Now that the snow was in much better shape for snowshoeing, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for redemption on my way back to the Bay. I got a late start as I waited for the warmth of the day with sunlight pushed back an hour from Daylight Savings. I got an omelette in Gardnerville before driving up to Luther Pass, where I started around 10:30am. There was a skin trail that was mostly destroyed by a boot pack, which I followed and figured I wasn't causing any further harm since the trail was very firm. Like my climbs the previous two days, I was greeted at the top with a white-out, but the wind was tolerable at least for a few minutes. I took a few photos and made my way back down, plunge-stepping through the powder. I arrived back at the trailhead at 12:10pm and was back at my desk in the Bay around 4pm.
