Ascent Trip Report

Backpacked a non-traditional route up 6582 (AKA Dawn's Peak or Lorenzin's Peak). Followed the South-East ridge up to 2528 and dropped down to Jackass Flat following the rim around to the old foot path down to Rockhouse Canyon at Hidden Spring. Continued up Rockhouse Canyon and took the wash to the East and bagged 3268. Backtracked to Rockhouse Canyon and continued North out of the mouth of the canyon and visited the Rockhouse ruins. The route over to Dawn's peak from there wasn't difficult but would have been easier if we had taken the wash just South of the route we took. We found a nice flat sandy spot in the West most wash off of Dawn's Peak. The next morning we climbed the South West ridge up to the peak. It's a steep climb to the top but worth all the effort. We followed the wash all the way back to Rockhouse Canyon and to the truck. We could have driven further up Rockhouse Canyon road but my original plan was to do a loop and hike out the more traditional route to check out the petroglyphs. We decided not to go back this way because the route from our campsite to pick up the other trail looked like a rollercoaster ride so we took the wash out and made really good time. Weather was perfect with a light breeze.
