Ascent Trip Report

Great time at Asahi-dake with Ann and a new friend, Arran. Peak started out clear, but clouds lowered to about 2100m on the way up, and about 1800m on the way down. Used crampons on the upper 2/3rds of the ridge and after summit, dropped a bulletproof ice chute about 2/3rds down the ascent ridge. Deposited us into nice soft snow in the crater and clouds cleared to show us some amazing views of the lower fumaroles. Spent the rest of the day taking laps around the lower area. Oh yeah, wind up high was super strong.
