Ascent Trip ReportThis is Day 26 of our Winter Trip 2019. Today we leave the Fort Worth/Dallas area northwest bound, to once again check out the access issues for Baylor and Shackelford Counties - we couldn't access on our first visit. On-route we took-in a few small/easy summits listed in the PB Library - our usual fun/great way to break up the long drives in most of our travels.
BLUE MOUND EAST … a drive up
From JCT #287/156 we drove north on 156 for 1.6 miles to a driveway on the right side, which climbs east 100 yds to the summit, capped with a fenced-in Communication Tower - a small bump offering nice views of the area. Blue Mound is a stones-throw-away to the northwest.
BLUE MOUND … 400 yds RT track walk.
From the foregoing driveway to Blue Mound East we continued north on 156 for .2 miles to a left on Blue Mound Road, then another .2 miles west to a gated track on the left signed "Private Property". I hopped the gate and walked the track south 200 yds to the small summit capped with an old building. Nice views of the area.
We continued driving north on 156.
CRAWFORD HILL … a drive up
From I-35W, exit 79, south of Denton we went east on Crawford Road for few hundred yards to a right turn on Taylor Road (large sign "Pilot Knob Estates", a huge amazing upscale subdivision) with an immediate left onto Knob Hill Road to house #776 on the left, capping the HP.
We looked for access to "Pilot Knob" further north with no luck - from what we could see access is not available.
"GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND THAT I LOVE
STAND BESIDE HER AND GUIDE HER
THROUGH THE NIGHT WITH THE LIGHT FROM ABOVE
FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE PRAIRIES
TO THE OCEANS WHITE WITH FOAM
GOD BLESS AMERICA, MY HOME SWEET HOME" …………. lyrics from "god bless America"
