Ascent Trip ReportJenni and I parked at Liberty springs trail head exit 34A and took the Pemi trail to a snow mobile trail to Whitehead trail/Liberty Springs trail. It had just snowed a few inches the night before but the tail was broken in. -1 F at the base, -13F at the summit of Liberty. Bare booted at the start, then switched to micro spikes to the top of Liberty. First 1.5 hike's is easy, with a few brook crossings to navagate but then gets steep till you summit Liberty. Windy at the top and breath taking in so many ways. We then moved on to conquer Flume which definitely required snow shoes and multiple hats. Hahaha. The trail was thick with branches reaching across from both directions. The guy we met coming up from flume said it was like going through a frozen car wash. Didn't quite understand what he meant until I went through it. Relentless snow covered branches at head, chest and shoulder height. Lost a hat somewhere along the way. Probably snagged by a tree branch. Used my Alltrails GPS to ensure we were on the flume trail which Jenni was confident of but I needed reassurance. I didn't expect to go down so much, thought it was more of a ridge hike to Flume. Epic hike. Good butt sliding down Liberty. I wish everyone had such an amazing hiking partner like Jenni. When I was feeling nauseated she slowed down, when I was tired she broke trail, when I was crampons less she gave me one of hers(different hike) and when I was breathless she gave me 30 seconds. Luv that girl. |
