Ascent Trip ReportWe enjoyed a crisp, windy day exploring the woods and whacking our way up and over 3 Catskill peaks starting with Fir, over to Indian and then over to Doubletop and down. Followed the trail (with very little snow) to the Biscuit Brook L2 and then began our bushwhack up the front of Fir (open woods, moderate grade). The snow gained with topo but was crusty enough to support us from Fir to Big Indian most of the time but we were glad we had snowshoes for those times we broke through! Big Indian to Doubletop includes a little bump in the woods and a nice little steep up at the end, the woods along the Double top Ridge were beautiful. From there we whacked down the gentle ridge of Dbltop until we hit a portion of Pidgeon Brook, made our crossing and maintained a line above the PP border until we reached Biscuit Brook, crossed again (toughest crossing of the day) and then climbed up a few hundred feet back to the Biscuit Brook trail to head out. Our gain for the day was ~3800' over 14+ miles. The blue skies, fun stream crossings, crunchy snow and howling wind made for a great adventure! |
