Ascent Trip Report

So the *more fun* way to do this would be to start at Castroville Regional Park and use the trails leading to "Cross Hill" -- this will give you an additional 120-125 feet of gain. However, if you're in a hurry, like I was, you can instead drive up to the small dirt parking lot behind the water tank, which gets you most of the way there. Either way, you get commanding views of Castroville, its little Alsatian stone houses, and church steeples. I was told by the lady at the Castroville Visitor Center that not too many people do this anymore, which is a real shame, because it's one beauty of a vista point and well worth whatever time you can spend.

Note that most people around here will know this as "Cross Hill" and the official name of Mount Gentilz is far less well-known.
