Ascent Trip Report

A beautiful day in the Guadalupe Mountains to be sure. No wind to speak of and temperatures in the upper 60's. I started at 7:15 in the morning expecting to be hiking for the next 8-9 hours like the Park Service says that it takes to summit. I was on the summit by 9:45 after stopping to talk to 2 other hikers. Hardly a 5 hour hike up! The first hiker I met was celebrating his 60th birthday by hiking up Guadalupe. Just minutes later I met a hiker who was headed down after summiting his favorite peak for his 80th birthday!! I hope that I am still doing this kind of hiking when I am 60 or 80! I spent an hour on the summit relaxing and eating an early lunch before heading down. An hour and a half later I was at the trailhead. Exactly half the time that the Park Service says it takes to summit and return... Pics
