Ascent Trip ReportDecided to grab a quick highpoint whilst returning from a visit to Arkport, NY. Like the other Trip Reports, I came at this one from Corning, NY. Take NY 414 northeast to Post Creek road. Make a right, then follow the road up to where it swings north. The road heads dead north for about a quarter mile, then bears slightly right. Stop here. There is a small pullout for a new pipeline right of way, you will see the break in the forest to your left. It is posted. While it is a bit further to the highpoint from this spot, you don't have to deal with the neighbors further up the road.
I left thegreatexplorer in the car and headed up the right of way on about a 270 heading. After the crest (100 yards or so), you will find a wide ATV trail heading north. This will take you directly to the CoHP.
The HP has a large tree stand/tree fort, several cords of wood, a trailer and a small cross right near the highpoint. It looks fairly kept up, so I think that the 'church camp' that was noted by previous trip reports has been replaced by this hunting camp (if that is indeed what it is).
There was a fresh coat of snow on the ground (three inches or so), and there were no footprints at the camp area. However, there were several tracks on the pipeline right of way, so it seems other folks were ignoring the posted signs.
15 minutes, car to car.
