Access to the National Monument is off of Hwy #27, where numerous road signs point the way.
The obvious high ground is just inside and north on the main entrance, in front of the very large historic building called "The White House" at the three flag poles with a ground plaque reading "To the honor and memory of the soldiers of the 5th and 6th US colored calvary regiments who died at Saltville, Virginia, October 2-3, 1864."
