Ascent Trip ReportI have climbed this peak along the Sherwins many times, always on skis. This day it was DEEP, with about 18 inches of fresh, the first part of a storm which would eventually dump 7-10 feet of snow on nearby Mammoth Mountain. It was snowing so hard it was like slow motion, straight down, with no wind at all. Setting the skin track up through the knee deep to the skiers left of the Tele Bowls, I continued up to the ridge through the old growth, then to the summit rocks. Severe avalanche hazard, with slabs cutting loose and zippering even in the steep trees. Carefully wound my way down skiers left of the Bardini chutes, following the path of a slide I cut. At one point a gust of wind came up, and the whole forest shed it's snow at one time. For about 20 seconds, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face!
