Ascent Trip ReportThis was a fun ramble with Anji, beginning right off Kyle Canyon Road at the Lucky Strike Canyon Trailhead. The road itself is actually pretty good, but the very first portion has some steep rocky bands and bad angles that make it a challenge for even a standard high clearance 4WD vehicle to get up, and even tougher to get down. Plan on some good suspension articulation, or a long approach on foot. This would actually be a great place for a mountain bike approach.
The hike itself was mostly a long trip down a good dirt road. We saw two guys in a nice Polaris quad go by (twice). The scenery was unexpectedly interesting. The ascent of the peak was pretty easy - taking the gently rolling road then head up the ridge to the summit, much of which has some game trails. We did see a wild horse. The trip down was mostly uneventful, save for the part where I reached back to check the tread on my hiking boot and caught my thumbnail with my heel and bent it back and nearly tore it off. This hurt pretty good for about ten minutes, but it was kind of funny seeing it came on the heels of a conversation about Anji slamming her finger in a car door some years back, and how much insignificant finger injuries smart. Next time I guess I need to knock on wood when having such discussions. Derp...
