Ascent Trip ReportSee the GPS track. The route is mostly on logging roads, however the beginning and end of the route was bushwhacking through forest and clear-cut. The route started out great in the forest, but we tended a little left of what we should have done and wound up in unpleasant clear-cut slash that didn't show up on the Google aerial photo. Somewhere in that slash I lost my balance and fell back on my pack. The pole in my right hand jammed in some of the slash and snapped off as I went down. No other harm was done, so I went on with one pole. On the descent Ken R. wanted to try a different route that would have cut down significantly on the bushwhacking distance, but unfortunately a deep gorge with steep sides within the clear-cut blocked the way. Since we had gone so far down we decided not to climb back up to the tried-and-true forest route, and instead headed down the low-angle ridge to the highway, then walked it back up to the cars.
The Kens wanted to celebrate my completion of the Tillamook County P1Ks, so we went to the Tillamook Cheese factory for ice cream. You can't complete the Tillamook P1Ks without eating some of Tillamook's most famous export -- dairy products. The ice cream there is fantastic, BTW.
This is the view north from the summit. It is of a portion of Netarts Bay with the village of Oceanside beyond.
