Ascent Trip Report

Camped the previous night in dispersed area a couple of miles downcanyon from the trailhead (Elbert Creek campground, the most used access to this peak). Very good quality gravel road to trailhead. Zillions of people do this climb! Seriously, at least 200 people must have summited on this day, and maybe another 50 gave it a shot. Many looked like they'd never done a hike before, sort of like the crowd you'd see at Old Faithful. Made for a rather strange climbing experience. Started up at 06:00 and by then the parking lot was full and the trail crowded. Trail, of course, very obvious, solid Class 1. Summited about 8:45 and spent a couple of hours exploring and taking pictures, including exploring the ridge to the south for about an hour. Back to the trailhead by 1 pm.
