Ascent Trip ReportBlame the tools, not the carpenter. Or in this case, the trail, not the hiker. After descending the North Uncanoonuc by way of the Red Dot Trail and the Link Trail, I continued across Mountain View road to the Link Trail towards South Unc and quickly ran into a trail that I had to bushwack through for 15 minutes. I eventually had to turn back as the trail simply disappeared and I feared I was going a little too out of bounds and starting to run the risk of getting lost. After heading back down I came to another possible trail, which led me to a trail clearing under a telephone pole line cutting through the mountains. I ran up this for 15-20 mins and got to what looked like the highest point away from the summit. South Unc has large cell towers at the top, and I couldn't view these do to the tree cover, so it's hard to say exactly how much further I had, but it didn't appear far. Unfortunately there was no trail access toward what looked like the summit. It was all thick woods and I was running out of time to learn the terrain as I only had a couple hours to hike today.
