Ascent Trip Report

Bluebird day in the Cascades with Becca, the boys, and Kennedy. This was Kennedy’s first time snowshoeing so we found this mellow route on an easy peak to introduce her. The main forest road 800 was well packed down from many snowshoers. From where we left the road we seemed to be the first party in a while to head up to the summit. Each of the kids took a turn breaking trail. Ironically, right after we reached the summit another party arrived but departed before we did. We dug a snow pit and I showed the kids the finer points of a compression test. Ground was reached in 2 and a half feet. Our analysis showed a weak layer about 3-4 inches below the surface. Thankfully our ascent route was all ridge top and low angle, nothing to be concerned about. The descent was equally fun and we had fun dropping down to the logging road a few times from a steep snowy slope! Pics
