Ascent Trip Report

Dave and I (mostly me) were trying to follow Richard Carey's written instructions to the TH. We easily found the "wide cleared area" on Rt 62 and then immediately lost it ! I went left (SE) to a well defined "dirt track" (actually a dirt road), instead of "strait south" to the "dirt track" as described by Carey. Long story short, we drove 14 miles to get to the TH at 8.5 miles in at Carey's point P1. To assist others, I have attached a track of the correct drive in (4WD definitely required), and a track of the hike. Route markers indicating JT1923, 1926 and 1922 are posted on the route. Be extremely alert to the route. Roads, tracks, and random off road travel make it difficult to follow. The basic route is shown as a 4WD trail, and the route that we took was Gold Crown Road. Parts of the "4WD trail" are in the wash, so after a rain there will be no tracks to follow. After you go "off track", others will follow where you went and create further confusion. 7.1 miles RT / approx 1850 ft gain. This includes continuing on to Peak 3878, approx 1/3 mile past the HP.
