Ascent Trip Report

While I haven’t been focusing too much on the “grid” where one hikes a peak each calendar day of the year across all years, I saw the opportunity to finish the month of December as I only had one day left after my luck at having a day off work on December 5th due to the passing of President Bush and MTB’d a local P1k under blue skies. At the time, I did not realize it filled in my next to last December day on the grid. After dropping Aidan off at the airport, Becca and I had spied this pleasant trail-accessible summit in a local county park, so we made our way out to the edge of the ‘burbs and parked at the Cedar Mountain TH. The forecast for the day was 100% chance of rain - it was accurate. In spite of forgetting her hiking shoes in our rush out the door to the airport, Becca was a champ and hiked this in Dansko shoes that normally see a lot of wear in the operating room, and not on a trail. We enjoyed a nice wet walk up the peak and along the Ridge Trail to Ridge Loop and back out, walking near the top of a bonus bump but not bothering to bushwhack the short distance to the summit as it has well under 300’ prom. Anyhow, this was a very nice trail system and must be nice for the people who live nearby to get out and walk in such a large area of forest and trails. In spite of the downpour, we saw one other hiker. Success - my December grid is now complete, my first month to have a P300 across all the years I have been peakbagging! I figured that with all the peakbagging I do, the grid will just fill itself in anyway. When the grid became a new feature about a year ago I already had 305 days complete. I am very thankful that Becca was up to do this in less than ideal footwear! Her feet stayed dry actually. Pics
