Ascent Trip ReportThis 2/3 HP's today. I started in the DMV and went to Spruce Knob.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM SPRUCE KNOB:
1. Head SW on Forest Road 104 for 1.6 miles
2. Left on Forest Road 112. Go 7.4 miles
3. Continue onto Briery Gap rd. Go for 2.4 miles.
4. Left on 33W. Go for 12.1 miles.
5.Right on WV-32. Go for 21.9 miles
6. Continue on US 219. Go for 8.1 miles.
The parking area was snow and ice covered. The trail was icy for sure and the mountain and trail were covered in 6" of snow. The trail was well marked and well blazed. It was sunny and cold (20deg F) with no wind. The views at the top were very nice. I signed the register and took some pics. The previous climber had left an energy bar (very nice). I was starving and thirsty but left it for the next climber. I gotta remember to bring food and drinks even on these climbs. Took about 45 mins to go up and 25 mins to come down. I then went to our lady of Pines (the smallest church in the lowest 48) and next door is the smallest post office. I was looking forward to breakfast/lunch at Heidi's Cafe in Oakland, MD, but it was closed.
