Ascent Trip Report

I flew into Mendoza and used Inka Expeditions for assistance acquiring the permit. I traveled by Buttini bus to Los Penitentes where I spent one night at Hotel Ayelen before proceeding to the Horcones trailhead. No mules were used for assistance in carrying my equipment, and I was therefore severely burdened by the weight of my pack getting to base camp. Inka provided excellent meal services at Camp Confluencia and Plaza de Mulas. After spending one night at Camp Confluencia and getting medical clearance to proceed, I reached Plaza de Mulas. I spent two nights at Plaza de Mulas during which I conducted one carry to Camp Canada. One night each was spent at Camp Canada, Nido de Condores, and the Berlin Hut. We found the Berlin Hut to be filled with snow but were able to remove enough snow to spend a warm and cozy night inside. Summit day was relatively straight forward but exhausting. We traveled thru Camp Colera to reach Plaza Independencia and then cross the traverse to the Canaleta. I descended to base camp the same day.
