Ascent Trip Report

I've spent a year agonizing over wether I was capable, able or had the will to climb this amazing beast of a mountain. It is The King of Red Rock! I've climbed to the ridge and area summits to stare at this massive mountain hoping one day I would be on top of it! The approach is an optical illusion that makes it look impossible to climb. My Friend Harlan has mentored me in the last year to prep me...he led me on many, many hikes all over red rock and the Spring Mtns that have exposed sections and scrambling. He advised me on shoes and taught me how repel, belay and use an ascender rope with a harness.....then the impossible happened. Though a rope isn't necessary to climb this Mtn, I used one several times because I didn't want to risk death because my kids are young and I want to live!!! Lol. Harlan planned the hike and invited some heavy hitter mountaineers to join us for moral support and peer pressure. Everyone on the hike was super kind and supportive, bada$$ and pleasent to hike with. Harlans attention to detail -and care was amazing. The route is a fun challenging playground of sandstone, tinajas, an arch, a Bridge and views galore. The scariest part of the hike was a wash we descended above rocky gap road that cliffed out a few times above pour overs but it was beautiful too. It was an amazing bucket list experience I will never forget. I love battling and destroying my fear and self imposed limits with the help of friends. The Ginsu Chopper is mine!!!!
