Ascent Trip Report

Parked at Rose Valley Campground and hiked up road. It had rained the prior week, so was not sure the road would be open, so thought it would be a nice hike on a cool day. There was a boulder (2ft cube) in the middle of the road past the turnoff to Nordhoff Lookout that made the road unpassable.

Continued along the road and then ascended the fire break up the northwest ridge of Chief Peak. Went up and over bump 5471 and then on toward the summit. Climbed up to the base of the cliff face and then turned to the right and followed it to where there was a gap to climb through. From there followed a ducked trail to the summit and signed the register. Enjoyed the views of the Channel Islands. Descended along a slightly different path, that bypassed the cliff face gap (so follow my tracks for the descent over the ascent).
