Ascent Trip ReportI have been eyeing this pretty little peak from I-70 for sometime since the ponderosa pines have been thinned out and has open vistas along the side slopes. You pass it from the highway as you turn off to go to Evergreen. When i visit Home Depot it calls to me to do a quick run up. Today for the first time I noticed that it actually sits on public land part of the Genesee Park although in a plot of land pretty near landlocked by the highway.
I drove down the hill saw that there are apartments being built near the boundary. I parked at a cul-de sac and hiked up knowing the construction workers would not care. But coming down after finding the water storage tank, I followed the utility maintenance road down and at the bottom there was a sign identifying the land as a Denver Mountain Park (DMP) - those pesky cryptic hidden parks in the area that never have maps, websites, parking, or identified trails but a sign that says you can do play on public lands! So looping back I found a public dirt road back to my car that I can use in the future after the apartments are built and off limits. I ran into a man about to walk his dogs up the DMP and he said he parks at Walmart and goes up starting at the sign.
Not a big journey but another way to grab some quick training exercise when I visit Home Depot and more importantly, I logged this little peak before Dave Covill or Brian Kalet - ha! ha ha.....a miracle |
