Ascent Trip ReportI'm writing this trip report to help anyone looking for a quick drive by bag of this county high point. I was trying to hit this and the OK state high point on a road trip from Denver to Dallas, but my plan ended up backfiring.
It looks like Carrizo and the East Slope are all part of the State Wildlife Area. After studying the SWA maps and satellite images of the area, it looked like the fastest way to get up the mesa was off of road Q to the north east: 37°11'27.6"N 103°04'09.9"W The plan was to either ditch the car at the entrance to the 4WD road and hike up the mesa, or if road trip timing was tight, take the car up the mesa and do a much shorter/flatter walk to the "summit." However, there was a gate at the entrance to the road with a large warning about unauthorized access because of the quarry up the hill. Since time was tight, we bailed and hit the OK high point instead of doubling back to the north/south west side of Carrizo, and while I haven't actually done that yet, that's definitely what I'd recommend.
