Ascent Trip ReportDepending on your vehicle and the distance you want to hike, this mountain can be anywhere from 3-6 miles round trip. Specifically, if you have a 4x4 you can go quite far up the road before getting out to hike. We parked at GPS coordinates 32.63954, -116.10141, and our total hiking distance was just under 5.5 miles round trip. The hike up the road was generally steep most of the first 2 miles. Then, you go cross country to the peak. It is highly recommended that you use GPS for this cross country portion of the hike. Also, I very highly recommend downloading someone's route to your peakbagger app, as it will keep you on track to the peak without getting lost. For us, we saw absolutely no Border Patrol, and only a few other people on the mountain. The location of this peak gives a feeling of isolation as you hike, and overall I really enjoyed this hike. Further, the climb up to Blue Angels looked more challenging from a distance than how it played out in actuality. The views from the peak were excellent. Enjoy! |
