Ascent Trip ReportThe Chimneys - a movable goal for what you may have in mind. Mostly known for its rock climbing opportunities, The Chimneys are also worth a .8 mile hike from the Table Rock Picnic Area. The first part of the trail is unremarkable except for the fact that it follows the MST and is a good climb from the parking lot.
The rest is what you want to make out of it. My first attempt was in 2017 and I chickened out and watched the rock climbers scale the jagged heights of these jutted rocks. The second time with older folks involved we combed ever crevice of the rocks and even made it to the peak, only to find that a senior picture shot was in progress. So much for old men scrambling.
I would recommend this trek to anyone who hikes the Table Rock trail and still has some gas in their tank. You will not be disappointed! The hike on the MST follows the western edge of these peaks and afford multiple side trails to scramble to the top. My group took one of these and were successful in climbing higher and more exposed rock than most peaks I have attempted. On the way back we took a cautious route even after seeing younger folks skating across the tops like squirrels heading up a tree.
Best advice: take your time, be careful, do not go it alone and enjoy!
