Ascent Trip ReportRecce of east side, on the afternoon of my arrival in Mexico. Vehicular access is available via a level crossing and a track leading past ranch buildings. It's apparently possible with permission to drive reasonably close to the base of the peak.
Instead I parked a little further north (N26.30398° W100.37890° approx), almost opposite another ranch entrance, crossed the railway and gappy hedge then hiked an unpaved ranch road, via 2 barbed wire fences and a small gate, almost to the base of the peak, where the road forks (N26.30735° W100.41639° approx). Left fork leads to an unfriendly dense brushy slope. Forking right, the track soon ends, with a trail leading into rubbly canyon. I followed the dry canyon for 1km, to reach a creek (N26.30963° W100.43422°, 907m), which evidently then goes underground (limestone). A water pipe extends a little further upstream, doubtless fed by the creek. My sense is that the stream could be followed upstream another half km then a steep reentrant on the left looks non technical and hopefully not too brushy. Then, the ridge leading to the main ridge appears (on Google Earth) to be non technical, the route bypassing or crossing the south top en route. Both summits appear non technical on this east side, but have cliffs in their west side. It's understood the main summit also has cliffs to the north preventing access to the north top.
Local climber Hector Tobias has summitted from this east side, via the next canyon south from the one I investigated; he confirms it's brushy.
I tried the less brushy west side a few days later, but failed to make the summit in the time available - that side seems more technical. See separate TR
