Ascent Trip Report

After hiking Escudilla and forgoing the west and south peaks, I hit the road toward Mt Graham. Driving US191, I pulled off at the Mt Rose picnic area and hiked up the service road to the tower. There is a sign at the base of the tower asking parents to hold onto their children when ascending the tower, so I climbed up, but one could only go up one flight of stairs as the upper portion was closed and locked.

This was an easy road hike and one I recommend to anyone who is driving US191 from Alpine AZ to Morenci AZ. This is the most torturous, twisty US highway I've ever seen. This highway is not for the faint of heart, I couldn't belief there were areas with 25 mph speed limits that I absolutely obeyed. So the hike a great stress relief, one can also walk easily to the Greenlee County HP, but it's not as nice.
