Ascent Trip Report

Beautiful November weather in Boise - perfect for Kate and Morty's first ascent of Shaw Mountain. We parked at the Fish and Game office off highway 21 and hiked up the road towards Adlemann Mine. We followed this road up to 4900 ft where there is a gate on the road. We left the road and hiked up the ridge toward the summit. It's a great hike, never steep with great views.

I had previously hiked this route back in November of 2015 and there were several game trails to follow up to the summit, but today the weeds were so high and thick that there was no visible trail at all. It wasn't brushy or anything, just waist high (or higher in some places) cheat grass / weeds to walk through - plenty of stickers for the socks! Definitely very different conditions than I experienced back in 2015. Also, there was a sign at the fish an game office warning of trapping, so we kept Morty on a short leash since it was impossible to see through the weeds.
