Ascent Trip ReportTrailhead is at the intersection of Poway Road and Highway 67.
A perfect day for hiking. A bit breezy, but warm and bright. Excellent visibility. This hike took in the peak of Iron Mountain and a lesser peak, and 2430. Fortunately, my Gaia track shows both peaks, however, I ran out of power once I reached Little Iron Mountain aka Peak 2430. Lots of friendly people today. No dogs.
A new feature has been added to the top of Iron Mountain. A pipe has been attached to a rotating dial which indicates direction. You can point the dial toward any object on the horizon and view it through the pipe. The brass telescope remains, also. It looks like Poway Parks has done an excellent cleaning of the area, installing the viewer, and removing trash and debris. I hope people will learn that orange peels are not biodegradable.
Little Iron Mountaina aka Peak 2430 is a charming little scramble and minor bushwhack. It is so close to the trail, it's a wonder I haven't climbed it before. I may have to do it again, just to get a complete track.
Stats below are guesstimates, based on the first half of my ascent. You will also note on the map, a straight line between Peak 2430 and my car. This reflects the power loss at the peak, and plugging into my car at the trailhead.
