Ascent Trip Report

This is a beautiful area and today was full of wildlife. I drove about 1/2 mile up the FR into North Walker Canyon; I didn't see any others in the area and no parked trucks with empty trailers. So I was fairly certain there weren't hunters up the canyon. Regardless I wore my bright orange so I would be visible. Once I passed the gate that ends OHV travel I came across two herds of mule deer totaling 14 with one buck in each herd. Then about 50 feet below the first saddle I spotted a Bighorn Ram toward the west. The last bit of wildlife were two coveys of Chukars that scared the heck out me at the first bump on the ridge toward the summit.

There were high cirrus clouds, but the views were still exceptional, I could see the white capped mountains in the Great Basin National Park.

There is a new register and there have been a lot of visitors. It looks like May 26 is the Chet Challenge and there were about 15 people signing the register for that. Unfortunately the Scipio Benchmark has been removed by chipping the concrete. The two reference marks are still in place.

Lastly the trail must have been groomed since some of the latest posts as it was very well cairned and didn't required any route finding or bushwhacking. Probably has to do with the last Chet Challenge.
