Ascent Trip Report

Started hiking at 7:50. Up tanners. Made it to the saddle at 10:15. It was chilly, most of the water in the stream/gully was frozen. But it wasn’t super cold, I was ok in just my green shirt and gloves while hiking up. Only two spots with minor routefinding decisions, otherwise it’s just fire up the gully. Scrambled up to sunrise. There was only one section that was attention grabbing, where I chose to go up right on the ridge and encountered some ice covered boulders. I corrected after this, and stuck to the south side of the ridge. Aside from a few patches of snow, it was mostly rock. The gully has a few brief sections of snow as well, but far and few between. Snow was really hard though. Clouds had appeared out of nowhere, as they typically do, right as I got to the ridge line. It had been so bluebird up til then, and then all of a sudden I couldn’t see alpine ridge at all, and could only see half of broads fork twins. Reached the summit at 10:40. Didn’t linger too long, it was really cold with the swirling clouds obscuring the sun. After a short break, and 2 Nutella cups, descended to the saddle, and up dromedary. It was shorter and easier than sunrise. It took maybe 40 minutes to get from one to the other. Another short break, some pics, then time to head down. The clouds had killed any motivation I had had to continue along the ridge. The views were mostly gone. Left the summit T noon ish. Descending the couloir actually was harder than going up I thought, and took more time than I thought. It was just so loose and chossy. No matter, once the lower gully was gained it was back to smooth sailing. Back to car by 2:10. It was comfy temps down at the car
