Ascent Trip Report

Trip report for my memory as the close of a perfect day. Dan and I climbed Silverheels and Palmer earlier in the day and Willie and Karen were anxious for a hike too so we drove up to Hoosier Pass for a quick hike. No intention of climbing this small peak as it was getting late in the day. Snow on the ground and getting cold. I suckered Karen into leaving the mining road and climbing up on the ridge where we saw a young couple. I sat down to wait for Karen to catch me and I could see she was ready to turn around when this nice young man and his girl friend came up with a look of desperation. They had hiked up here at 1PM and it was now after 5PM sun-setting at 6 PM and she had lost her phone with her drivers licence ID needed for their flight back to Houston TX.

Total panic of course. They were a very nice couple and she had an I-Phone he did not. He asked if we had I-Phones and if so could we help find it. They were exhausted going back and forth in the snow and she had no socks on and at 12,000 feet their Houston lungs had enough. We used the the "Find Phone function" and it showed her phone was dropped all the way up near where the quit hiking. Karen stayed back with her and kept her spirits up. I headed up and tagged this small summit and realized the signal was now down from this point near the junction of two roads. I got to the point and called her phone but it was on vibrate and buried in the snow so no good. The young man caught up to me and said the spot we were standing the GPS place was not where they were it was another 150 feet in the other direction but we could not find it there either. We sent a signal to her phone to make a loud pinging noise and alas we could hear it and at 5:45 phone in hand we headed back to the ladies.

We were the last people on the mountain and they had to fly out the net day. We got them down after 6PM as the sun was setting. One very happy couple. Pay it forward! Always and good fortunate will come back to you. It felt great to help them not have a ruined vacation and an issue flying back.Willie enjoyed running in the snow

The phone was pretty far down from the peak and we had to reclimb most of this peak to find the ladies so regain on way back
