Ascent Trip Report

Day One: We started at Vivian Creek Trailhead and hiked up the maintained trail to High Creek Camp where we filled up our water supply. After the switchbacks above High Creek we took off cross country up a rocky ravine to the saddle of Dragons Head, dropped our backpacks and summitted. We descended, picked up our packs and headed to the Tarn where we again dropped our packs and summitted Bighorn Mountain. We picked up our packs and headed up the South side of San Gorgonio until we hit the Sky High Trail and followed that around to the West side and up to the summit. We camped at the summit, it was windy and cold and we were the only ones up there. It was really nice to have the sunset and sunrise all to ourselves on the summit. Day Two: We hiked to Jepson Peak and down it's South side to drop our packs. We then bagged Little Charlton Peak, and Charlton Peak before returning for our packs. We followed the saddle from Jepson to Little Dobbs, dropped our packs and hiked over to Dobbs Peak. We were unsure about hiking past Dobbs and down the ridge with backpacks on and we needed more water so we decided to drop back down to High Creek Camp. It was really steep so go slow and use caution, especially with packs on. We filled up a couple bottles of water and headed down the Vivian Creek trail back to the truck. STATS: 24.3 miles and 7,420 ft elevation gain.
