Ascent Trip ReportSeefingan, Seefin and Seahan, Kilbride army camp (Marilyn and 600m+) Ireland
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries.
All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
Parking for this route was from the army camp entrance st Kilbride. It was a Saturday so we knew it was closed. Also the route circuits the firing range boundary and the flags were not flying. On a weekday I assume it won’t be possible to park at the entrance of the camp...but you could try!
Anyway you head north on the road for a km and then as soon as you see the forest you go off right over a style and follow an indistinct path that runs alongside the forest.
When the forest runs out keep heading up on the same trail (NE) for about 500m and you will summit trig pointed Seahan.
Head east downhill and then uphill to Corrig (not a Hewitt) and then turn south for the 2.5km leg to Seefingan. There’s a trail of sorts and it meanders its way through the boglands. To be honest it wasn’t too boggy but in a wet year/period it could be.
It was cold but it was still a good day and the cairned summit of Seefingan soon followed.
Turning SW and a 1.5ks later and we were on top of Seefin’s cairned summit.
The trails were getting better now and turning NE and down we soon met another forest edge that bought us back to the road to come back to the van shortly after from the other direction.
Not the best scenic vistas but it was a day out in the hills. A cold one but a good short one!
All in all 10.5kms with 600m of ascent done in 3hours. A good introduction to the Wicklow hills.
