Ascent Trip Report

I looked up the three COHP candidates on the Gwinnett County GIS website, which shows 2-foot contours and 1-foot spot elevations.

After visiting all three spots, I'm confident that Area 2 is the true COHP. This is a substantial outcropping in the front yard of the house at 3253 North Bogan Road, Buford GA. GIS shows the outcropping at 1292 and the road at 1288. We climbed the rocks with the permission of the resident (who had heard that this is the county highpoint). The top boulder rises at least 6 feet above the road, which would make it 1294.

Area 1 (spot elevation 1286) was shown as 1290 feet on the GIS map but has been bulldozed away to build new homes. The highest point on the remaining hillside is barely in the 1,286 contour on GIS. This is at 4670 Point Rock Drive, Buford GA.

Area 3 is 1289 per GIS. This is the Gwinnett County water tank at 2860 North Bogan Rd, Buford GA. The high ground here is a flat boulder N/NE of the water tank and outside of the fence.
