Ascent Trip ReportThere are several possible driving routes to the trailhead. I believe this is the best. None of the roads on the IDL lands are signed. About 3 miles north of Priest River take the Peninsula Road about 7.5 miles to the East Side Road which goes up Big Creek. After 0.8 miles go straight at the junction. Follow this gravel road another mile where a gravel road goes right at a kiosk frame.Go straight here to go to Bald Mountain. For Prater go right. After a half mile follow the switchback to the left. Stay left at the next junction after 0.7 miles. After about another mile go right up the hill on a native surface road to a saddle at 0.6 miles. Stay on the main road for about 600 feet to another saddle. In about another 600 feet a brushed in road goes right up the hill. The summit is about a half mile from here but will take at least a 40 minutes. Park here and follow road through alder brush turning into Ceanothus brush. At the end of this road head up through brush and game trails to top. This is an old lookout site with limited views of Priest Lake and Pend O'Reilly Lake.
